Why Count Characters?
You'd be surprised how often character limits trip people up. Twitter/X cuts you off at 280, meta descriptions top out around 155, and SMS breaks after 160. It's a lot to keep track of.
This tool takes the guesswork out of it. Whether you're crafting a tweet, writing a meta description, or just trying to hit a word count, you'll know exactly where you stand.
What This Tool Counts
Characters
You get two counts here — one with spaces and one without. Most platforms count spaces, but sometimes you need the raw character count on its own.
Words & Sentences
Handy for essays, blog posts, or anything with a word limit. The sentence count is great for checking if your writing feels too choppy or too dense.
Lines & Paragraphs
Lines are useful if you're working with code or structured data. Paragraphs help you see the shape of longer pieces at a glance.
Common Character Limits
Social Media
Twitter/X gives you 280 characters — not a lot to work with. Instagram and TikTok captions max out at 2,200, and LinkedIn lets you go up to 3,000.
SEO & Web
Title tags should stay between 50–60 characters, and meta descriptions work best at 150–160. For URL slugs, try to keep them under 75 characters.
Messaging
A single SMS tops out at 160 characters. Push notifications sit around 40–120, and email subject lines perform best when you keep them to 40–60 characters.
